Our base started in 1994 as a hub for a traveling team, doing extensive outreach in and around the Sunnmøre region of Norway. The base was founded by Kalle and Liv Skårbrevik.

Four years later, in 1998, we pioneered the first Creative DTS—and ever since then, the Creative DTS has hosted 15-40 students each year. In the fall of 2018, we celebrated the 20-year-long journey of the Creative DTS!

In 2004, we initiated Lyspunktet Café together with the Missions church. In 2019, Dråpe was opened by previous YWAM staff, with a heart for hospitality. Dråpe is considered to be one of the best café's in town.

The base moved to the city center of Ålesund in 2018.

Our new building enables YWAM Ålesund to grow in many new exciting ways! We have been able to increase our schools sizes, host local events, and partner with other Christian organizations. In 2019, we celebrated 25 years of YWAM Ålesund.

Our base is led by Jan Oskar and Randi Alnes. They are married and live in Alnes, just outside Ålesund. In the fall of 2019, they became base leaders at YWAM Ålesund. They are involved with YWAM Medical Ships in Papua New Guinea, where they have been a captain and a nurse since 2015. Together, they carry the vision of Medical ships and YWAM Ålesund partnering together. Jan and Randi also brought the vision of Outdoor DTS, which we now run a full track.

"We want the base to be a blessing for our city. YWAM Ålesund is a creative center and we dream of seeing Christian artists flourish to inspire people to follow Jesus. We also dream of assisting Papua New Guinea reach its future goals for the quality of life in their nation."
