FAQ

  • On average, how old are DTS students?
Our base often has students who are between the ages of 18-25.
  • During DTS, is housing and food provided?
Yes! The cost for the lecture and outreach phases of the schools covers your housing and meals.
  • What language(s) is the DTS in?
For Creative DTS, Outdoor DTS, and School of Worship, all teaching will be in English.
  • How many students come for each DTS?
There are usually around 35 students, split between the Creative DTS and the Outdoor DTS.
  • Where are students most often from?
We have students from all over the world! With each DTS, the amount of countries represented often changes. So far this year, we have had students from nine different nations.
  • If I'm married, can my spouse and I do a DTS?
Yes! If you are married, we highly recommend doing a DTS as a couple.
  • Where do students go on outreach?
We have gone to many different nations before, and we always seek God’s heart each year about where to go on outreach. In the past we have gone to India, Japan, Mexico, Tanzania, and different European countries. As a base, we are burdened by the suffering in Papua New Guinea and try to join YWAM Medical ships in their work there as often as we can, but there is no guarantee that we will do outreach there.
  • What do the school fees cover?
The lecture phase fee covers your food, housing, teacher fees, track time. You will need to purchase your own plane tickets to and from Norway, as well as cover visa fees if your home country requires it. Outreach fees are a flat rate—it remains the same regardless of the location you head to for outreach. Your fees cover your flights to and from your location, food, and housing. Outreach fees do not cover any additional vaccines or mediation.
  • What does outreach phase look like for both Creative and Outdoor DTS?
Outreach phase is a two-month phase of the school that is all about making God known to the nations. Activate what you learned during lecture phase and track time when serving your outreach location. Outreach is full of opportunities to evangelize, pray, play, worship, plus chances to discover ways to use your passion to serve and glorify God, and grow your heart for missions and other cultures.
  • If I do the Creative DTS, will I get opportunities to explore Norway?
Exploring Norway during track time (Tuesday afternoons and Fridays) usually depends on what the track leader plans. For example, the photography track tends to go out and take photos of Norwegian nature. But if you’re on a track that isn’t able to explore during the week, you’ll still have free time (like the weekend!), which is when many students enjoy renting cars from the base to go on road trips or go hiking!
  • What does a daily schedule look like?
During the lecture phase of the school, most weekday mornings begin with times of worship or intercession. Students attend lectures, where they might learn about how to hear God’s voice or how to share His truth with the world. Afternoons are often a time for helping around the base by cleaning, baking, doing maintenance, or something else, as we believe in having a servant heart. During the outreach phase of the school, the schedule can vary depending on location and ministry opportunities.
